Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Audience

Journal of STEPS for Humanities and Social Sciences (STEPS) majorly targets researchers worldwide as the journal's subject areas are not limited to a certain country.

Types of papers

  • Original article: Standard research papers of 4000-8000 words in length (including tables, figures and references).
  • Review article: The number of words in this type of articles must not exceed 13000 words (including tables, figures and references) and must provide a novel viewpoint and critical evaluations on topics of interest to the readers of STEPS.
  • Rapid Communications: Accelerated publication of significant new results in the Social and Humanities Sciences of 1000-3000 words.
  • Letters to the Editor: Short papers discussing, clarifying and/or responding to previously published articles in the STEPS.

Ethics in publishing

  • Author(s) must ensure that they have written entirely original contributions, and if they have used the works of other authors, these should be correctly cited or quoted. Authors must follow the international publishing Ethics.
  • The submitted works must be unpublished before and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • Authors must reveal any financial support and personal relationships with other people/organisations that could improperly affect (bias) their works.

Changes to authorship

  • Authors must list and order the authors before submitting their contributions to the STEPS.
  • Any changes in the authorship (names or orders) must be made before the final acceptance of the contributions and only if approved by the journal Editor. Change in the authorship must be requested by the corresponding author clarifying the reason for the change in the authorship. The request must be supported by a signed letter (sent via e-mail) by all authors confirming that they agree with the changes.

Copyrights

Although the STEPS support supports the readers' rights in reading, downloading, printing, and citing the published papers, the permission of the Editor is required (mandatory) for the resale of published papers.

Article structure

Please review our article template to use as a guide.

  • Authors must divide their articles into clearly defined and numbered sub-sections. For example, if the main section has a number of 1.1., the sub-sections must be 1.1.1., 1.1.2., etc. Note that the abstract is not included in sections numbering.
  • Figures captions must be provided.
  • Tables must be editable text.
  • Although the main sections of papers could vary according to the type of the paper, the abstract, keywords, introduction, conclusions, and references must be included in all contributions except the Letters to the Editor.

References

  • Authors must make sure that every reference cited in the text is also presented in the reference list.
  • Unpublished references, results, and personal communications are not recommended in the reference list.
  • References must be numbered (in square brackets [ ]) in order of appearance in the text and listed at the end of the paper. For example [1], [1,2] or [1–3]. Name(s) of the author(s), year of publication, work title, journal/book title, volume number, issue number, and page range must be mentioned where applicable.

After acceptance

The corresponding author may receive a request to conduct the final online proof.
